My recommended source for how to get free credit report has always been AnnualCreditReport.com . Now during the Covid-19 crisis Annual Credit Report.com is offering free weekly credit reports for a year.
Great news! Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion are now offering free weekly online reports through April 2021.
AnnualCreditReport.com is the centralized website that allows all consumers access to free credit reports granted by Federal law. It’s the only website that allows you to obtain each of your credit reports from all three of the major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion for no cost.
It Used To Be How To Get Free Credit Report Once A Year
Normally you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three major credit bureaus. You can order them online at the link above or call 1-877-322-8228. You can also request them by mail using a form and then mailing it to the address listed on the form.
You will have to provide your full name, address, social security number, and date of birth to verify your identity. Because of the Covid-19 situation this has been extended to free weekly credit reports until April 21, 2021.
Tip. Although slower, for how to get free credit report I recommend requesting them by snail mail while including clear copies of your ID documents (driver’s license, state ID, social security card, current utility bill, birth certificate, etc.) You don’t need all of those. license, utility bill and social security card will suffice.
The website doesn’t ask for these ID documents but including them in your mailed request will avoid a delay should the credit bureaus not be able to verify your identity from your name, address, social security number and date of birth alone.
It’s simple and tempting to address any errors on your credit reports by using their online or phone dispute process. Do yourself a favor and skip this option. You will get better results by disputing errors, inaccuracies and unverifiable items through the mail.
